I have been practising and teaching Pilates for over 12 years.
Prior to that I was ....and still am, a dance teacher. I have over 20 years of observing the body and teaching the body to move, looking at its form and getting the best out of it, whether that be through Pilates or dance.
Originally I trained in Contemporary Pilates with Stott and Future Fit, where I gained my Reformer and Matwork qualifications and then trained in authentic, Classical Pilates , with Gaby Noble at award winning Exhale Pilates, London.
For the last 2 years I have immersed myself in a fully comprehensive training program in the Classical work and on all the classical equipment - Reformer / Cadillac / Barrels and Chairs / Matwork - from the very beginner to the super advanced client.
Recently I have been lucky enough to train with and attend workshops with Olga Tamara, Brooke Siler, Miguel Silva, Gloria Gasperi, Sandi Shimoda and Benajmin Degenhardt. All huge and influential forces in the world of Pilates.
I like to teach a creative and effective pilates class, focusing on the needs of the individual, where my knowledge and love of movement and dance underpins each class but always with a smile.
I am very interested in rehab Pilates and spends much of my time researching its benefits and how to input these ideas into my classes. Later this year I will be finishing my studies in GP referral and completing my level 4 diploma in Pilates back care and Myofascial Release technique.
No other level of training can teach you how to understand the work and how that translates on to the many bodies you see week in and week out. These tools and this experience enables you to work, safely and effectively with clients whilst staying true to the method. By using the equipment, I can move around the studio picking out what exercises each body needs. It’s amazing
Pilates is tough, it works to strengthen and lengthen the body, to stabilise and create uniformity in posture and alignment. Be prepared to start slowly, to find the work correctly in your body...but it doesn't stop there. It is a journey between you and your body, a continuous learning curve where you will get stronger
I am enjoying seeing the work transform my clients bodies and mine! In my experience, no other form of exercise results in the strength and stability that the body can achieve through pilates. Joseph Pilates created a system of exercise to challenge the body and the mind, to be taught on an amazing array of equipment and on the mat. Clients start to see and feel the results and develop the same faith and passion in the method as their instructors.
We dont take ourselves too seriously in class ........but be prepared to work hard!!
