Lets Dance Academy
Based in Marshalswick, St Albans
Let's Dance Academy was established in 1968 as the Lena Smith School of Dancing and has always enjoyed a reputation for first class teaching, along with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Lena Smith ran the school from it's small beginnings up until her retirement in 1999 when Siobhan Chown took over as Principal, becoming Let's Dance. Let's Dance has now grown into one of the largest schools in Hertfordshire with approximately 350 students attending classes each week and growing!
The aim of the school is to provide a safe and enjoyable home for St Albans’s budding dancers to enjoy. Whilst following the ethos of dancers in discipline, technique and an extremely high standard of dancing, we also look to nurture and positively develop an overall love of dance, both creatively and emotionally. We positively impact on a child’s physical, social and mental wellbeing whilst supporting them on their dance journey, no matter how many classes they may take with us.
We pride ourselves in providing a happy and friendly environment that often serves as a lifeline in our children’s busy and sometimes stressful lives. Past students often visit the school and in several cases have returned to teach the next generation of the Lets Dance family. In 2000, Becky Lowman, a student of Let's Dance since the age of three came back after a long professional career to teach, later becoming principal in 2016 and renaming the school to The Let's Dance Academy.
Or passionate teaching team conforms to the high standards set by the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (I.S.T.D.), the premier international examining body for dance. The Let's Dance Academy team take a lot of time to develop their CPD and regularly take the students along to professional workshops and courses. This has and will always inspire us to provide Let's Dance Academy pupils with fun, professional and inspirational classes.
Yoga With Josie
Josie is a qualified and insured yoga teacher with over 15 years of yoga experience. With a passion for yoga which started at 6 am in Goa. My boyfriend (now husband!) persuaded me to go to a yoga class. I loved it!
Ever since, I have been increasingly inspired by the many benefits that yoga brings. Before I became a yoga teacher I worked in the fun but manic world of television. My time was never my own and I would rush from one place to the next. I slowly began to realise the many positive changes that yoga was having on me and eventually I left the world of TV and trained to become a yoga teacher.
I embarked on an intensive 200 hour Sivananda Yoga Teacher Training course in 2008 which was amazing. Later in 2013 I completed the 200 hour Anusara Teacher Training with Bridget Woods Kramer where I learned to incorporate the principles of alignment with the softness and playfulness that yoga allows. I also specialise in Pregnancy and Baby Yoga and have been inspired by the trainings of Francoise Freedman at Birthlight, as well as the teachings of my own son Felix and daughter Isabelle!
My classes incorporate a range of Hatha yoga traditions with a strong sense of awareness and alignment. The overall aim is to help strengthen your body and your mind. And with the strengthening there follows a calmness, a softness and a positivity that is sometimes hard to find in everyday life. I aim for the classes to be fun, relaxed and personal, helping each person slow down and learn to live life to the full.
