Pilates is named after Joseph Pilates, the man responsible for creating the pilates method, which used to be called 'Contrology". He designed the machines, he devised the matwork and his vision was to " Return to Life" mankind and rescue it from its grey and sedentary lifestyle.
The work is mastered through practise and repetition of the system of exercises, to build a strong foundation for the body to progress.
Exercises were created on the equipment to enable the clients to get stronger, so you can master the matwork ....and matwork is the toughest as it is you and your body against gravity!!
Pilates builds strength, control and flexibility in the body and is now recognised by medical professionals as an important part of recovery from injuries and with specific exercises to strengthen the body, it can help with structural imbalances. Pilates exercises can help with alignment issues and achieve a better posture
Pilates is also used by athletes and sportsman, footballers, gymnasts and dancers. It is also carried out regularly by the over 80s and the celebrities looking for that red carpet ready body
